1.1) сенекаИндейское племя Лиги ирокезов [ Iroquois], населявшее земли на западе современной территории штата Нью-Йорк; в 1650 насчитывало 10 тыс. человек. Ныне в племени 9,6 тыс., из них в США более 9,2 тысяч, живущих в резервациях Аллегейни [ Allegany Reservation], Каттарогес [ Cattaraugus Reservation], Тонавонда [ Tonawanda Reservation], Ойл-Спрингс [Oil Springs Reservation] (в штате Нью-Йорк) и Корнплантер [Cornplanter Reservation] (в штате Пенсильвания); остальные в Канаде. В 1848 резервации Аллегейни и Каттарогес вышли из Лиги ирокезов и создали т.н. Сенекскую республику [Seneca Republic], до сих пор имеющую полунезависимый статус и называемую Нацией (индейцев) сенека [Seneca Nation (of Indians)]. Тонавондские и канадские сенека остаются членами Лиги2.Принадлежит к ирокезской группе [ Iroquoian]
